Browsers, Firewalls, & Routers

Port 2774 needs to be open - On all firewalls and routers you need to open port 2774 to run the Remote Backup Client Software. In your router or firewall device setup screen you need to open this port and allow a connection to your computer.

Ports 5800 & 5900 - If you are going to allow Tech Support to look at your computer, you will need to open these two port numbers. These are only used for the Remote Control utility that Tech Support uses.

Firefox Browser - This browser is set up, by default, to block all Java and ActiveX applications. The Online Installer uses Java to perform the install. We have tried to install Java and ActiveX support in Firefox at our office, with no success. After quite a few futile hours, the install continued to just hang in the middle of the installation. We do not support using Firefox to install your Client Software.

Microsoft Firewall - You will need add the remote backup client software to the list of exceptions that Windows Firewall protects against. To do this; go to Control Panel - Firewall -  and click on the Exceptions tab. Click the add button and navigate in the pop-up box to C:\Program Files\Remote Backup\Backup.exe. Select OK and click the add button one more time. Select C:\Program Files\Remote Backup\RBClient.exe. Make sure both of these files are checked on the exceptions page. Click on OK, and you are ready to run your backups.
